NEXTWAVE / Warehouse & industrial Wi-Fi
Warehouse & industrial Wi‑Fi installation.
Warehouse Wi-Fi has to work around racking, stock, high ceilings, moving devices and operational areas. We plan the wired backbone, access-point locations and network separation around the way the site actually works.

A good place to start
Is this your kind of project?
- 01
Handheld scanners, tablets or phones lose connection around racking or stock
- 02
A warehouse, office and yard need one coordinated wired and wireless network
- 03
An existing collection of access points has grown without a clear coverage plan
01 / The approach
Treat warehouse Wi-Fi as a radio design problem.
Warehouses are difficult wireless environments. Metal racking, changing stock, high ceilings, machinery and long aisles can all alter how radio signals travel. Adding another access point without considering the wider layout can create as many problems as it solves.
We start with the working areas and the devices that matter: picking aisles, loading areas, offices, production space, fixed terminals or selected outdoor areas. The design is then built around those requirements.
02 / In practice
Use a wired backbone to put Wi-Fi where it is needed.
A planned Wi-Fi system normally relies on a structured wired network behind it. Suitable Cat6 or fibre routes, PoE switching and access-point locations allow coverage to be placed deliberately rather than relying on wireless repeaters.
The final access-point count and locations depend on the building, client devices, mounting options and agreed coverage areas. We do not specify a fixed number from floor area alone.
The Cat6 and fibre installation and Wi-Fi design should be specified together. A separate store or distribution building may also need a dedicated building link as part of the wider site.
- 01
Warehouse aisles and operational zones considered separately from offices
- 02
Wired uplinks and PoE switching planned with the access points
- 03
Expansion, additional devices and selected outdoor areas considered where useful
03 / The approach
Design around the devices and traffic that run the operation.
A scanner moving between aisles has different requirements from a fixed CCTV camera or a visitor using guest Wi-Fi. We identify the important device types and how they move through the building before agreeing the network design.
Staff, guest, CCTV and operational equipment can be separated where appropriate. If an existing firewall, server, cloud platform or IT provider forms part of the network, responsibilities and integration points are clarified in the proposal.
04 / The approach
Commission against agreed working areas.
The project should have a clear definition of what is being delivered. We agree the working areas, installation scope and any testing or reporting before the work is booked. Site conditions, stock and racking can change, so universal coverage claims are avoided.

How your project worksBefore you enquire
A few useful
answers.
We start with the available plans, photographs and network information. A site survey or further radio assessment may be needed where the environment, mounting positions or coverage requirements cannot be resolved reliably from that information.
Yes, where the existing equipment and cabling are suitable. We assess what can be retained and make the proposed changes clear in the written scope.
Those areas can be included in one project, but they may need different access points, mounting positions or network links. The agreed coverage areas are treated individually within the wider design.
Access, installation windows and any expected interruption are discussed before booking. The practical sequence depends on the existing network, cable routes and the site's operating requirements.
